Marquette, Michigan (SN) – On March 25, 2022, the small community of Marquette was shaken by the tragic death of 17-year-old Jordan DeMay.
A promising high school senior, Jordan was driven to suicide after falling victim to a cruel sextortion scheme orchestrated by two Nigerian brothers, Samuel and Samson Ogoshi.
Jordan DeMay, a student at Marquette Senior High School, was known for his athleticism and vibrant personality. However, his life took a devastating turn when he was targeted by the Ogoshis, who posed as a girl online to deceive him into sending explicit images. Once they had the images, they demanded $1,000, threatening to release the photos if he did not comply.
Despite paying $300, the threats continued. In a state of desperation and fear, Jordan expressed his intent to take his own life. The extortionists callously responded with messages urging him to do so. Within hours, Jordan was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The death of Jordan DeMay prompted a thorough investigation by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI, leading to the arrest and extradition of the Ogoshi brothers from Nigeria. They were charged with conspiring to sexually exploit minors and were sentenced to 17 1/2 years in federal prison.
