In a heartbreaking incident that has left the community of Barrow County, Georgia, in mourning, the victims of the Apalachee High School shooting have been identified. The shooting, which occurred on Wednesday, resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left several others injured.




The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has confirmed the identities of the four victims who tragically lost their lives:

  • Mason Schermerhorn, 14, a student known for his love of science and robotics.
  • Christian Angulo, 14, another student who was passionate about sports and had dreams of becoming a professional athlete.
  • Richard Aspenwell, a dedicated teacher who had been with the school for over a decade, known for his commitment to his students and his love for history.
  • Christina Irmie, a beloved teacher who was admired for her innovative teaching methods and her dedication to the arts.


The shooting unfolded rapidly, with law enforcement responding to reports of an active shooter at 10:23 a.m. The suspect, identified as 14-year-old Colt Gray, was apprehended shortly after the incident. Authorities are currently investigating the motives behind this tragic event¹³.


The community has been left in shock and grief. Vigils and memorials are being organized to honor the victims and support their families. Sheriff Jud Smith expressed his condolences, stating, “First and foremost, we want to lift up our community, give our sympathies to our community, school system, kids, and parents who had to witness this today. Obviously, what you see behind us is an evil thing today”.


As the investigation continues, the focus remains on healing and supporting those affected by this tragedy. The Barrow County School District is providing counseling services for students, staff, and families. The community is coming together to offer support and solidarity during this difficult time.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing issues related to school safety and mental health. The community of Barrow County will undoubtedly continue to honor the memories of Mason, Christian, Richard, and Christina as they navigate the path to recovery.
