120 evacuated after fire breaks out at block of flats in south-east London.

London, United Kingdom (SN) | Around 120 people were evacuated from a flat in south-east London after a fire broke out on Sunday.

A dozen fire engines and 100 firefighters attended the scene in St Mark’s Square in Bromley.

Half of a five-room flat on the 15th floor of a 19 storey block of flats is alight. Part of the roof also caught fire, London Fire Brigade said.

No injuries have been reported in the incident.

The brigade’s 999 control centre received 95 calls alerting them to the blaze.

Fire crews are using a 64-metre turntable ladder to tackle the fire.

Station Commander Colin Digby is at the scene, he said: “Crews are making steady progress. This is going to be a protracted incident and we expect our crews to be on scene for several hours to come.”

The Brigade was called at 11:58 and is still on scene. Fire crews from Bromley, Beckenham, Addington, Woodside, Lewisham, Forest Hill, Sidcup and Croydon, Bexley, Orpington and Battersea fire stations.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.

Footage posted on social media showed flames and black smoke coming from one part of a slanted roof.

Further footage showed firefighters on the roof with the flames apparently extinguished.
