Australia | Police Accuse Man Of More Than 400 Crimes Of Child Sexual Abuse
Australian police have charged a man with more than 400 counts of child sexual abuse for filming, sexually abusing and raping 24 children under the age of 13, and possessing child exploitation material, authorities announced Wednesday.
Perth, Australia | A 47-year-old man, residing in Perth, in the south-east of the country, committed the crimes between 2015 and 2021 and will appear in the magistrates’ court on Friday of next week.
Western Australia’s regional police said they found about 3.8 million videos and images related to child exploitation on multiple devices belonging to the accused, some of which allegedly showed the abuse he committed, according to a statement.
The 413 charges against the unidentified man include 44 for penetration of a child under 13, 98 for indecent registration of a child under 13, and 240 for indecent treatment of a child under 13, among others.
The investigation is “one of the largest investigations ever conducted in Western Australia, in terms of the number of images located and the number of victims of abuse,” Inspector Hamish McKenzie told a televised press conference in Perth.
The police investigation began last July, following complaints about alleged sexual abuse of children attributed to the man, with victims known through family or friends, triggering searches of the accused’s home and workplace.
