Harmony Montgomery | Kelsey Small, the woman who was living in a car with Harmony Montgomery’s father when he was arrested, has been found dead.
Kelsey Small, 27, died on March 13 at a hotel in New Hampshire, police told WMUR. Investigators are not considering her death suspicious. According to the New Hampshire Union Leader, she was found dead in Manchester and her cause of death is pending.
She had been the girlfriend of Adam Montgomery, father of missing 7-year-old Harmony Montgomery, for about a year. When he was arrested on New Year’s Eve in connection with the girl’s disappearance, both he and Small were living in a car.
Adam Montgomery has been charged with second-degree assault, interference with custody and two charges of endangering the welfare of a child for allegedly hitting Harmony. He is still being held on those charges.
Small had not been charged with any crime.
Harmony hasn’t been seen since late 2019. She was not reported missing until late last year, when her mother, Crystal Sorey, did so. Adam Montgomery had been given custody of the girl while Sorey was in drug treatment in 2018, after which he allegedly cut the child off from her mother. Sorey has been vocal about the search for her daughter
Small spoke with detectives last year at the time of Adam Montgomery’s arrest. She told them that he had never mentioned Harmony, according to WMUR, but said she was aware that he had four children with two women.
Harmony’s stepmother, Kayla Montgomery, was also jailed last year for allegedly lying about Harmony to claim food stamp benefits. She has been charged with felony theft and two misdemeanor charges related to welfare fraud. Kayla Montgomery, like Adam Montgomery, is also currently jailed.
Both have pleaded not guilty. Adam Montgomery had previously been arrested in 2014 and later convicted on charges related to the shooting of a man during a heroin deal gone bad.
He is due in court on June 28.
