The Queen has stripped Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, of his military titles, Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday.
The Duke of York will continue to not undertake any public duties and will defend his civil lawsuit in the US as a private citizen.
The Duke of York’s military affiliations and royal patronages have been returned to the Queen, Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday.
It follows news that former members of the Royal Navy, RAF and Army called on the Queen to strip the Duke of York of his honorary military roles.
They made a heartfelt plea, saying: “Please do not leave it any longer.”
Until Thursday, Buckingham Palace declined to comment but previously said that the duke’s military appointments are temporarily suspended after he stepped down from public duties in 2019.
It follows a long-running sex abuse saga where he stands accused of sexually assaulting Virginia Giuffre, then Virginia Roberts, whilst she was 17 years old.

In August, it was reported the Queen, who is Colonel in Chief of the Grenadier Guards and head of the armed forces, told insiders she wanted her son to remain as colonel of the regiment – an honour he took over from his father the Duke of Edinburgh.
But on Thursday, the Queen relinquished all of his military affiliations and Royal patronages due to his involvement in the Epstein sex scandal.
On Wednesday January 12, New York Judge Lewis Kaplan gave his ruling on the dismissal of Virginia Giuffre’s sexual abuse case against Prince Andrew, Duke of York. The motion for dismissal was denied thus the rape civil case against Prince Andrew will move forward
