Suspect In Jacqueline Avant’s Murder Arrested

The suspect in the death of Jacqueline Avant has been arrested. Aariel Maynor was arrested by Beverly Hills police on Thursday afternoon after reports of a burglary at another house emerged.

A 29-year-old man named Aariel Maynor has been arrested in the death of Jacqueline Avant, wife of legendary music Clarance Avant, whom was fatally shot at her Beverly Hills home.

The Beverly Hills police department announced the arrest of Aariel Maynor on Thursday afternoon.

Maynor is currently on parole and was taken into custody early on Wednesday by Los Angeles police at a separate residence after a burglary was reported there, according to the Beverly Hills police chief, Mark Stainbrook.

Officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 1100 block of Maytor Place shortly before 2:30 a.m., according to Lt. Giovanni Trejo of the Beverly Hills Police Department. They found Avant, 81, with a gunshot wound.

She was taken to Cedars-Sinai Hospital, where she later died, Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark Stainbrook said during a news conference Wednesday.

Police recovered an AR-15 rifle that was believed to have been used in Avant’s shooting. Maynor accidentally shot himself in the foot with the gun, police said, and is being treated before he can be booked into jail.

Authorities do not believe there are any other suspects in the Avant case, and Stainbrook said there were no outstanding threats to public safety.

As of right now, Maynor’s motives are still unknown.
