Jacqueline Avant, wife of legendary music and mother-in-law to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, Clarence Avant, was shot and killed in her Beverly Hills home early Wednesday, police said.

The communications center received a call at 2:23 a.m. in response to a shooting in the 1100 block of Maytor Place, in the high-end Trousdale Estates neighborhood.
Officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 1100 block of Maytor Place shortly before 2:30 a.m., according to Lt. Giovanni Trejo of the Beverly Hills Police Department. They found Avant, 81, with a gunshot wound.
She was taken to Cedars-Sinai Hospital, where she later died, Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark Stainbrook said during a news conference Wednesday.
“The motives in this case are still unknown, and we’re investigating all possible motives,” he said. “We will not speculate on anything that’s out there, including if this was a robbery attempt or not.”
Although the motive is unclear, police suggested Avant may have been targeted. Police also said it was too early to speculate what the motive was or whether the shooting was part of a robbery attempt.
The suspect or suspects have yet to be arrested. Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) Chief Mark Stainbrook said an investigation is ongoing.
“I don’t think it’s a random attack, but I can’t speculate on that right now,”
