UK, Nov 27 – Prime Minister Boris Johnson was live today from Downing Street to talk about the measures implemented by the government in order to face the emergeance of the new COVID-19 variant which is now known as Omicron.
When the information about the new variant was first released by Dr Tulio Oliveira in South Africa, it was referred to as B.1.1.529.
During the live conference, Boris Johnson confirmed that the wearing of masks would remain one of the measure implemented in order to face the new variant Omicron.

Face coverings will have to be worn in public transport and retail.
Sir Patrick Vallance discussed the efficiency of vaccines and the ability that the manufacturers have to modify vaccines in order to respond to the new threat. That is the case of Pfizer, who Friday said that “it could produce a new vaccine in 100 days”.

Omicron first emerged in South Africa earlier this week. News cases are starting to arise on a global scale.
So far the cases are emerging in Hong Kong (2), Belgium (1), Israel (1), UK (2), Botswana (1).
