Kenyan Police are on the hunt for Olympic runner Agnes Jebet Tirop who was found stabbed to death in her bedroom in Kenya.
Ibrahim Kipkemoi Rotich, Agnes’ husband was named as a prime suspect in her death. Her body was discovered on Wednesday with stab wounds to her abdomen in her home located in western Kenya, Iten. Iten is a high altitude hub for many top class athletes.
“We are closing in on the manhunt for the killer” said Keiyo North police commander Tom Makori on Thursday.
The sooner we get to reveal the circumstances that led to the murder of the young girl, the better for all of us, he added.
Agnes Tirop finished fourth in the 5,000m race in Tokyo. She represented Kenya at the Tokyo Olympics with the season’s best time 14:39.62
On September 12, at the Road To Records event in Germany, she set a new record in the women-only 10km race, crossing the line in 30:01. She beat the previous record by 28 seconds.
At 19 years-old, she won the 2015 World Cross County Championship. In 2017 (21 years-old) and 2019 (23 years-old), she won the 10,000m World Championships.
The crime scene is still in place at her house as police continue the investigation.
