Gabby Petito’s Cause Of death is Strangulation. Experts say that, homicide by strangulation indicates a likelihood of domestic violence and deadly intent

Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue announced Tuesday that Petito died by “manual strangulation/throttling. She wasn’t killed with an object like a rope or chain or was choked to death with hands.

Experts On Strangulation

According to Dr. Dan Field, a board-certified emergency physician and an expert witness in strangulation and homicide cases interview on Fox News Digital, ” killing someone by strangulation is a long, deliberate process”.

“It takes roughly between 62 and 157 seconds, he said. And then the question the prosecution has is, does that sound like a ‘moment of passion’ — 62 seconds?” he said.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Dr. Theodore King, an assistant state medical examiner, testifying on another case, said : a person being strangled would lose consciousness within 20 to 30 seconds and would be dead if constant pressure were applied for an additional 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 minutes.
However, Dr. Barbara Wolf, an associate medical examiner in Fort Myers, Fla contradicts that it would take about three to four minutes of continuous choking to cause death.

Wolf, citing the book The Essentials of Forensic Medicine by Cyril John Polson, read a passage that said it is “rarely, if ever, possible to give an accurate estimate” of the length of time someone would have to be choked to die.
Wolf said that although she has heard other pathologists offer opinions ranging from two to five minutes, she has never been aware of medical literature that supports those claims. She said that a number of factors — including a person’s sex, size and whether alcohol or drugs were ingested — can cause variations on how long death would take.

“It is surprisingly quick, but it’s not a moment,” Field said. “It’s not a flap. It’s not the pulling of a trigger.”

Brian Laundrie whom returned to Florida on September 1 without Gabby is still at large. Death by strangulation indicates a likelihood of domestic violence. The Teton County Coroner in Wyoming has yet to announce any reports relating to Gabby’s body showing signs of domestic violence.

Domestic Violence

Manual strangulation is the biggest sign domestic abuse will turn deadly, experts say.
Authorities have not confirmed that information. But just weeks before her death, a man who called 911 told Moab police he saw Brian Laundrie slapping Petito.
Subsequent police body-cam footage taken from that day shows Petito telling police Laundrie hit her.

Newly-released body camera footage from the Moab City Police Department more clearly shows Gabby Petito describe a fight with Brian Laundrie while on their cross-country road trip. In the video, the officer asks the 22-year-old to describe what happened between her and Laundrie prior to their arrival.

The couple reportedly told officers they were in love and engaged to be married. They agreed to separate for the night to calm down, police said. That night, police arranged for Laundrie to get a hotel room while Petito chose to stay in the van. No criminal charges were pressed.

The video being released as well as the announcement that the cause of death is strangulation doesn’t sit well with domestic violence advocates. They say, they’ve long seen a link between strangulation and domestic violence.
According to the San Diego-based Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention, a woman who has suffers a nonfatal strangulation incident with her intimate partner is 750% more likely to be killed by the same person with a gun.
